Hyatt Vineyard's Winemaker
Andy Gamache
Hyatt Vineyards of Washington State appointed Andy Gamache as their new winemaker in April 2005. Hyatt Vineyards is a 30,000 Washington winery owned by Leland and Lynda Hyatt producing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and assorted varietals in the northern Yakima Valley within the pending American Viticulture Appellation Rattlesnake Hills.
Andy grew up in this region in an agricultural family and has a Bachelors Degree in Agribusiness from Washington State University. He earned a Masters Degree in agriculture completing an original thesis on the production of a "faux" Ice wine utilizing microwave vacuum dehydration. During that time he interned at Hogue Cellars with prominent viticulturist and enologist Wade Wolf. Upon graduation he accepted the position of Assistant Winemaker as Apex Cellars working with Brian Carter. In the spring of 2005 Andy became the Winemaker at Hyatt Vineyards and their super-premium brand Roza Ridge.
He believes in thorough management of Hyatt's four vineyards to deliver the best raw material in this unique area, and a "hands-off" approach to winemaking with minimal handling. Scrupulous maintenance is a requirement to from grape to bottle to ensure that this fruit displays its great potential in the finished wine.
